Job Description:

Position: Chiropodist 1.0 FTE Permanent, with benefits
(could also hire 2 Chiropodists to fill the position)
Reports To: Physical Health Team Lead

Position Summary:
The Chiropodist is responsible for triaging and implementing foot care services for CFHT patients referred from primary care and existing patients within other programs who meet referral guidelines. The Chiropodist also provides education to staff and community when requested. The range of service includes active treatment of acute pathological foot conditions, preventive and palliative foot care, and the promotion of foot health. 
 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Understand and collaborate as required with the individual, clinical programs/services and interdisciplinary team members to provide foot care services and education 
  • Assess and treat foot conditions and disorders in a timely manner 
  • Differentiate between disorders of the foot arising from systemic or general disease and those arising from local, structural and/or functional disorders
  • Act as a resource to other CFHT programs and team members and assist with the coordination of services as required
  • Recognize patients having conditions beyond their scope of practice and refer to other appropriate health care professionals 
  • Design and implement foot care plans based on presenting conditions and the patient’s individual needs, reinforcing and encouraging patient responsibility and participation in the care plan
  • Provide foot care education and recommendations for off‐loading techniques including orthotics where necessary
  • Provide general and preventative footwear education to patients and staff, and/or refer patients for footwear modification as required
  • Ensuring appropriate antiseptic techniques, safe procedures and isolation practices are maintained in the clinical setting. Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
  • Maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills
  • Work in compliance with Health and Safety laws adhering to safe work practices and procedures established by the CFHT
  • Other duties as required

Skills/Knowledge Requirements:

  • A strong understanding of current chiropody/podiatry best practices and guidelines
  • Experience with reprocessing; including instrument cleaning, packaging and sterilization
  • Experience with an electronic medical records 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong technical skills using the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment

Education/Specific Job Requirements:

  • License/registration in good standing with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario 
  • Preferred completion of Bachelor of Science and Graduate Advanced Diploma of Health Sciences (Chiropody)
  • Additional training or credentialing is considered an asset.
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings and possibly half day on Saturday is required
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Vaccinations to protect against COVID-19, or any similar infectious diseases, which are recommended by governmental and public health authorities. The CFHT will comply with the Ontario Human Rights Code with respect to any exemption requests

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of clinical experience, preferably within primary care
