AFHTO’s Environmental Scan is for boards of primary care organizations to use as a framework for generative discussion and strategy development. We have used a common strategy framework known as PEST to group factors that are affecting primary care.

PEST stands for Political, Economic, Socio-cultural, and Technological.

We encourage teams use this framework as a tool to help develop strategic priorities. This is a succinct 2-page scan, and it includes 10 questions that boards should be asking when developing a strategy framework.
