The Barrie and Community Family Health Team (BCFHT) is one of the largest Family Health Teams in Ontario. Our team includes physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, pharmacist, diabetes and respiratory educators, mental health counsellors, social workers, occupational therapists, foot care nurses, and administrative staff.

The BCFHT has an existing position for a:

MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST / INTAKE CLINICIAN

  Permanent – 0.6 FTE

LOCATION: Barrie, ON

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with the Physicians/Specialists on the team to identify and facilitate improved primary medical care for those experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns. As part of the Team, the Mental Health Therapist is responsible to work in collaboration with BCFHT employees and physicians to enhance and provide essential patient care to members of the community and effectively navigate community health care support services. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Primarily responsible for completing phone intake screenings to determine client suitability/appropriateness for the program.
• Adhere to common practices and standards for assessments, timely documentation, best practice therapy modalities, etc.
• Assess risk and engage relevant circle of care constituents as necessary.
• System navigation – identify clients requiring other services and facilitate referrals to appropriate community resources or information exchange.
• Ensure timely access to care.
• As needed, provide brief, evidence-based therapy to individuals experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns.
• Participate in discussion/consultation with the Mental Health Team and IHPs, including monthly team meetings and peer supervision.
• Engage in group development and facilitation opportunities as they arise, and time allows.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology
• Must be registered as a member in good standing with one of the six regulatory bodies authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy: the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, the College of Nurses of Ontario, the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
• Minimum three (3) years related experience, including the provision of client intakes or assessments, brief or short-term counselling to individuals & couples, suicide risk assessment & treatment, psycho-educational group development & facilitation, and crisis counselling.
• Experience in evidence-based psychotherapies (e.g. cognitive behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, etc.).
• Experience in mental health and/or addictions (community-based setting preferred).
• Fluency in French or another second language would be an asset.

• Must have a reliable source of transportation
• Must be flexible in hours of work to adapt to the changing needs of the role.
• Must adhere to Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures, as per applicable legislation.
• Must adhere to all BCFHT Policies and Procedures.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada

COMPENSATION

The BCFHT offers a competitive benefits package including health, dental, and pension plan (HOOPP) for those eligible. We do not use AI to screen, assess or select applicants for the position. The salary range for this position

is $40,767.37-$49,177.34/year ($37.33-$45.03/hour).
