Job Summary
The Physician Assistant is an integral part of our interdisciplinary team and vital to the health and well-being of the community by providing high-quality patient care. Summerville Family Health Team (FHT) is looking for an experienced Physician Assistant to help improve patient access to care by assisting in diagnosing and treating patients in a clinical setting. Working with a supervising physician(s), the PA will conduct comprehensive patient assessments, physical examinations, medical histories. And assist in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic illnesses. Reporting to the FHT Manager, this position requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail and a strong understanding of medical terminology and acute care practices the Physician Assistant will work with a group of physicians and operate under their supervision with medical directives in place.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Support the implementation of Summerville’s plan to expand the care team and attach a minimum of 3000 new patients, as part of the MOHT primary care expansion initiative;
• Uphold confidentiality standards and adhere to privacy regulations (e.g., PHIPA);
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations and medical histories;
• Assist in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic illnesses;
• Administer medications and perform procedures as directed by supervising physicians;
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans;
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records for all patient interactions;
• Provide education and support counseling to patients and caregivers on preventative health and chronic disease management;
• Engage in pain management strategies for patients requiring specialized care;
• Supervise medical students, physician assistant students, and mentor/support medical residents;
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
• Master’s degree in physician assistant studies from an accredited institution
• Current certification as a Physician Assistant in Canada (CCPA) with an active CPSO license
• Patient coordination and support experience
• Two years of Physician Assistant experience, ideally in a primary care setting
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and EMR (e.g. Accuro).
