Position: Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse – Advanced Foot Care
Contract – March 31, 2026 – No Benefits, Hourly
Reports To: Interim Manager Physical Health
Please note: Hourly rate of pay will be determined by nursing registration status
Position Summary:
As a key member of the Couchiching Family Health Team (CFHT), and an integral part of an interdisciplinary health care team, you will deliver nursing care in accordance with FHT policies and professional practice standards. You will perform routine nursing duties, and ensure that the emotional and physical comforts of our patients are met.
Your primary role is to work in partnership with the family health team to reduce patient wait times for appointments, as well as to cut down on unnecessary office visits and visits to after-hour clinics or emergency rooms.
You will deliver services to a variety of patient populations including high-risk groups suffering from chronic diseases and/or complex multi-system diseases. You will also provide health education to our patients with a focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic disease management. The Advanced Foot Care Nurse will apply an anti-oppressive lens in supporting diverse patients.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Assessment
• Analyze findings of a health assessment
• Interpret patient health records
• Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions
• Collect data through a therapeutic relationship with a patient
Treatment/Management
• Determine the appropriate service or treatment, the appropriate care provider or the appropriate equipment
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician or according to established policies and procedures
• Provide nursing care and treatment (including complementary therapies and/or counselling) for health problems
Education/Advocacy
• Help patients to identify and use health resources, including those available in the community and from community agencies
• Involve patients in decisions about their own health including referring them to our health education
• Encourage patients to take action for their own health
• Initiate health education and other activities that assist, promote and support patients as they strive to achieve the highest possible level of health
Referrals/Collaboration
• Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary health team to plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate patient care in consultation with patients and their families
• Consult and interact with other service providers such as laboratory and radiology services
Administration/Reporting
• Coordinate and expedite patient flow by triage
• Handle patient phone calls, provide telephone advice, and arrange for follow-up appointments as necessary
• Collect accurate and comprehensive patient-related information and document on clinical management system
• Operate and monitor medical apparatus or equipment, and ensure strict adherence to sterilization procedures
• Handle and dispose of specimens and/or objects, and practice general safety procedures at all times
• Monitor supply levels and/or expiration of medical and clinic supplies, and order supplies as needed from approved vendors
• Prepare monthly reports for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC)
Specific Footcare Tasks
• works collaboratively with the CFHT Chiropodists
• Assessing and treating foot conditions and disorders in a timely manner
• Differentiating between disorders of the foot arising from systemic or general disease and those arising from local, structural and/or functional disorders
• Acting as a resource to other CFHT programs and team members and assist with the coordination of services as required
• Recognizing patients having conditions beyond their scope of practice and referring to other appropriate health care professionals
• Designing and implementing foot care plans based on presenting conditions and the patient’s individual needs, reinforcing and encouraging patient responsibility and participation in the care plan
• Providing foot care education on use of proper casting techniques for orthotic and off‐loading devices, providing general and preventative footwear education to patients and staff, and/or referring patients for footwear modification as required
• Communicating/presenting foot health education in a variety of settings to patients, inter-professional health care professionals (IHPs) or other individuals as needed
• Ensuring appropriate antiseptic techniques, safe procedures and isolation practices are maintained in the clinical setting
• Maintaining and upgrading knowledge and skills regarding new procedures, methods and equipment
Organizational Nursing Support
• Adapt to the staffing needs of the CFHT by assisting with nursing responsibilities in other CFHT programs and services as required
Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
• Excellent oral / written skills
• Strong clinical skills
• Flexible and able to adapt to a constantly changing environment
• Autonomous and able to function with minimal supervision
• Ability to work effectively with all members of the health care team
• Ability to work in an inter-professional team environment
• Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively and be flexible in a very active work environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of culturally responsive care, ability to work across difference and experience, supporting equity-deserving patients.
• Works in compliance with Health and Safety laws adhering to safe work practices and procedures established by the CFHT
• Other duties as required
Computer Skills
• Familiarity with a PC OS environment
• Willingness to learn scheduling and electronic medical record keeping using a clinical management system (Practice Solutions)
• Minimum typing speed at 40 words per minute
Language Skills
• English required; Second Language not required but would be an asset
Education/Specific Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (RN) or Practical Nursing Diploma (RPN)
• Certification from an accredited Advanced Foot Care program
• Certificate of Competence and current membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
• Current membership in professional associations: Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification
• Flexibility to work possible evenings when required
• Police Record/Vulnerable Sector Check
• It is a condition of employment that you receive the necessary vaccinations to protect against infection of COVID-19, or any similar infectious diseases, which may be recommended by governmental and public health authorities from time to time
Experience:
• A minimum of two (2) years’ clinical experience as an Advanced Foot Care Registered Nurse, preferably in community-based health care
• Experience in collaborative work with community-based agencies and organizations preferable
• Teaching experience will be considered an asset
