Our team Comprised of physicians, medical residents, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse, Registered Dietitian, Registered Social Worker, and Pharmacist who provide support from a collaborative administrative and clinical perspective. Position Profile The Registered Practical Nurse, under the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario, functions as a member of the nursing team to provide basic assessment and treatments, preventative, educational and/or supportive care. The position requires the RPN to work with independence in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team under the supervision/direction of the Executive Director and FHO Manager. The Registered Practical Nurse adapts to changing workloads while collaborating with the Team. The RPN works closely with physicians and Team personnel, in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice within the clinical setting. The RPN promotes collaborative team practice amongst all disciplines and acts as a resource for all staff members, communicates effectively with members of the Team, and other patient care areas. Accountability The Registered Practical Nurse reports to, and is responsible to, the Executive Director and FHO Manager. Roles and Responsibilities
  • ¬†Medication administration incl. routine vaccinations and injections
  • Wound care incl. management of complex wounds, assisting with surgical procedures, suture and staple removal
  • Liquid Nitrogen treatments incl. warts, skin tags, other
  • EKG testing and basic arrhythmia interpretation
  • Ear irrigation
  • Monitoring vital signs incl. blood pressure, HR, O2
  • ¬†Referrals through TeleDermatology service
  • Co-ordination with CCAC, Public Health, etc. regarding patient care
  • Communication with patients regarding vaccinations, abnormal lab results, as advised by the physician
  • Management of medical supplies and vaccines incl. ordering and restocking
  • Production and management of patient health information packages
Qualifications
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required, with Professional Liability Protection (PLP) insurance
  • Successful completion of a provincially recognized educational program for Practical Nurse required
  • Knowledge of requirements of the College of Nurses of Ontario, privacy legislation, Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, and Scope of Practice as per RHPA: Scope of Practice, Controlled Acts Model, 2011 for nursing
  • Current CPR, Mask Fit and Vulnerable Sector Police Screening required
  • Previous clinical experience an asset
  • Knowledge and skills of CBG testing, 12 lead EKG, measuring vital signs, oxygen equipment use and set up an asset
  • Demonstrates ability to emphasize the interpersonal aspect of nursing such as interest, empathy, honesty, non-judgemental attitude, and respect
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrates ability to set own workload priorities and document according to professional standards to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of patient care
  • Establishes priorities and making ethically sound decisions to ensure safe patient care
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Responding to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes
  • Demonstrates excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills and use with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems (experience with EMR an asset)
  • Excellent work performance and attendance record is essential
