Physician Assistant (Term) – North York FHT (Toronto)

POSITION: Physician Assistant – Full- Time Contract (December 2017- December 2018)

REPORTING TO: Clinical Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The physician assistant, under the direction of the Clinical Manager, will provide comprehensive primary health care services to the patient population of a family physicians’ clinic within the North York Family Health Team (NYFHT). The PA works collaboratively with physicians and allied health professionals to optimize quality, evidence-based patient care.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Working with a team of health professionals in an inter-professional, collaborative primary care setting and under the supervision of a physician. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting patient interviews and taking medical histories;
  • Performing focused clinical assessment/physical examinations, formulating treatment plans and patient referral;
  • Performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
  • Ordering and interpreting patient laboratory and radiological results;
  • Communicating care plans and providing medical updates to patients and their families
  • Counselling on preventative health care and chronic disease management
  • Monitoring patient progress and response to treatment
  • Performing certain acts under medical directives delegated by a physician

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an accredited PA program
  • Preference given to those with at least one year of primary care experience
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and experience with EMRs
  • Current CPR— HCP certification
