Clinical Psychologist – Greenbelt FHT(Nepean)

Clinical Psychologist – Permanent 0.6 FTE (3 days/week) 

Position Summary
As a key member of the Mental Health Program and an integral part of the interdisciplinary primary care team the Psychologist will screen and assess for the presence of mental health disorders and provide short-term treatment to help patients manage difficulties and symptoms.  The Psychologist will work with other members of the Family Health Team (FHT) to ensure that all residents of the community are aware of the importance of health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic disease management.  S/he is to practice according to the standards outlined in the following documents:

  • College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Regulated Health Professions Act (1991)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Assessment

  • Screens, prioritizes and processes referrals
  • Select, administer, score, and interpret psychological tests
  • Reviews clinical information obtained through referrals, laboratory reports and health records
  • Conducts comprehensive consultations with patients to obtain relevant information and assess their needs
  • Evaluation, assessment, and diagnosis of the functioning of individuals and groups related to mental disorders as well as wellness and mental health

Treatment, Management and Planning

  • In collaboration with Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and other Interdisciplinary Health Providers discuss
  • and implement an appropriate individualized care plan with the patient/family care giver based on best practices.
  • Facilitate coordinated access to services in areas such as assistance with daily living, crisis intervention, treatment health promotion and prevention.
  • Facilitate linkages with appropriate services, supports, and resources
  • Provide interventions with individuals and groups
  • Treatment of serious mental health disorders, and management of psychological factors related to acute and chronic illnesses (e.g., cancer, diabetes, chronic pain).
  • Documents using patient health records, refers to other specialists, institutions, or support services as necessary

Education and Advocacy

  • Involve patients in decisions about their own health
  • Encourage patients to take action for their own health
  • Help patients to appropriately identify and use available resources including community services and programs
  • Develop learning resources for patients
  • Participate in ongoing program development and evaluation
  • Communicate program findings for quarterly reports to the MOHLTC

Leadership

  • Act as a team leader and resource to the physicians and other mental health staff
  • Be available for regular case consultation with the mental health workers
  • Offer consultation on treatment for patients

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from a CPA accredited university of recognized standing
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Competency in Clinical Psychology with an adult population required
  • Competencies in Health or Rehabilitation Psychology an asset
  • Proficiencies in assessment, evidence-based psychotherapy for working with adult individuals
  • Experience in leading individual and group therapies for a variety of primary care practice issues including but not limited to mood disorders, anxiety disorders, stress, grief & loss, behavior change, adjustment to medical illness and personality disorders
  • Able to communicate English fluently, verbally and in writing
  • Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Knowledge of chronic disease management strategies and familiarity with the Eastern Counties is advantageous
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Experience working with a Windows based OS and Electronic Medical Records
  • Superior interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
