Job Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides patient care including treating acute/chronic infections and ulcers and taking culture samples.
  • Ensures foot care areas, resources, materials, and equipment are maintained. 
  • Arranges, wherever practically possible, home foot care for patients unable to attend for in-person treatment.
  • Maintains complete and accurate client records, assessment notes and required correspondence.
  • Where appropriate, develops partnerships and alliances to optimize health care service provision and address needs of the community.

CHIROPODIST RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs assessment, diagnosis, treatment, health education/counselling for diseases, disorders and dysfunctions of the foot and other clinical foot care activities according to the College of Chiropodist of Ontario

Prescribes medication in compliance with the Chiropody Act, 1991 and ESFHT policies and procedures

Provides foot health education to patients, allied health professionals, and interested community.

Diagnose, prescribe, fit, and dispense orthotics.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Undergraduate degree/diploma in chiropody from a COCOO-approved post-secondary program is required. Must hold a general certificate of registration with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario (COCOO) to work full scope, including injection and prescription privileges. -OR- Registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses’ of Ontario (CNO) and certification from an accredited Advanced foot care course
  • Additional training and/ or experience in providing care to seniors and individuals with diabetes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community health care. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an inter-professional team environment with strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, Microsoft Office applications and electronic health records. Experience using Accuro EMR an asset.
  • Wound care experience preferred.
  • CPR (with AED component) certified
  • Experience in training, counseling, and time management
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an interdisciplinary health care setting preferred
